New schedule for waitlist opening for Housing Choice Voucher Program

  • Lead There is a new schedule for the waitlist opening for the tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher Program in Mesa. Pre-applications will be accepted online from Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 10am through Monday, Dec. 19 at 5pm.

The City of Mesa Housing Authority will be accepting pre-applications for the tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) online from Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. through Monday, Dec.19 at 5 p.m. This will be a web-based pre-application process. The application will be located at www.mesaaz.gov/hcvwaitlist. Additional assistance is available to those who may experience difficulty completing the online application, including paper applications. Please go to the website for more information.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), provides rental assistance to low income families by contracting with private owners and subsidizing a portion of the family's monthly rent. The family's portion of the rent is based on their income and generally amounts to no more than 30 percent of their adjusted monthly income on rent, depending on the cost of the unit they select. Applicants are subject to all regulations and policies of the City of Mesa Housing Authority. This is the first time the waitlist has been open in the City of Mesa since May 2013.

Applications can be completed on any computer, tablet or smartphone with Internet access, including free computer access at the following locations:

City of Mesa Housing staff will be available at these locations Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist with submitting applications. Library locations have ADA computers for people with disabilities. Public computers are not available at the City of Mesa Housing Authority Office.

Applicants will need to provide names, birth dates and social security numbers for each family members; however, the application can still be completed if a family member does not have a social security number. Applicants will need to list income sources for each family member and the total gross annual income from all sources. Applicants should have a pen to write the confirmation number.
