Mesa Water Resources honored for management excellence

Mesa, AZ – The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) honored the City of Mesa Water Resources Department with the Platinum Award for Utility Excellence on October 17 at its 2016 Executive Management Conference in Scottsdale. Mesa Water Resources was one of only ten agencies nationwide to receive the Platinum Award that recognizes outstanding achievement in implementing the nationally recognized Attributes of Effective Utility Management.

“AMWA awards spotlight the impressive advances and substantial achievements of public drinking water utilities that are leading the nation in their efforts toward sustainability through innovative management practices, executive leadership and employee engagement,” said AMWA President Scott Potter, Director of Nashville Metro Water Services.

Among many achievements, Mesa Water Resources was recognized for decreasing dependence on non-renewable groundwater supplies from over 70 percent in 1984, to approximately 10 percent today; recharging approximately 8,000 acre-feet of effluent a year; and achieving close to 100 percent reuse of reclaimed water.

“We have an absolute dedication to make meaningful and progressive contributions to the water industry through sustainable practices,” Water Resources Department Director Dan Cleavenger said. “This award recognizes that dedication and the outstanding work of our staff to deliver clean, safe and reliable water services to our community.”

The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies is an organization of the largest publicly owned drinking water suppliers in the United States.
