8/11 Celebrates "811" and Safe Digging

Post Date:08/02/2017 10:54 AM
  • Lead 8/11 Celebrates "811" and Safe Digging; Always call before you dig, it's the law.

August 11 (8/11) is a day recognized nationally to remind everyone that placing a free call to 811 before digging is not only the law, it avoids outages and expenses, and is an important part of overall safety.
Are you planning a digging or excavating project? If you are, here are two things you need to know:

• Contact Arizona 811 two days prior to starting your project to have underground utilities located. Calling them is easy and FREE, simply dial 811.
• You are not officially ready to dig until all utilities have been properly located and marked.

Remember to always use caution when digging: Always dig around the 811 marks, not on them. Note that some utility lines may be buried at a shallow depth and a digging can bring potentially dangerous and/or costly consequences to your project if don’t without the proper precautions.

If you damage a natural gas pipeline while digging/excavating, move to a safe location and call 911 and the City of Mesa immediately at 480-644-4277 (GASS).
