Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU)
CIU works closely with Patrol and Street Crimes Units to conduct in-depth
investigations into reported crime. CIU takes investigation from Patrol and
self-initiates investigations into misdemeanor and felony crimes, which are
committed within the respective districts (Central,
Dobson,
Red Mountain and Superstition).
CIU also works together with all other Valley and many out-of-state
agencies, as well as all federal and foreign agencies and authorities.
CIU serves search warrants and court orders when appropriate.
CIU follows up with the charging authorities to ensure the
criminals charged with crimes receive the most appropriate
punishment possible.
CIU attends briefings and conducts training classes for
internal and external customers. CIU hosts and attends meetings
with federal, state, county, municipal, and private law
enforcement and loss prevention authorities to share information
and to receive information on common suspects and crime trends.
CIU reports crime trends, enforcement projects, teaching
projects and investigation results to COMPSTAT. CIU works
closely with our crime analysts and crime prevention officers to
prevent crime proactively and to educate the public.
