Cons, Frauds and Scams
Best Buy
Beware of a phony e-mail scam. Consumers are receiving
e-mails entitled "Fraud Alert" supposedly from Best Buy's fraud
department. The e-mail says that someone has been in the store
trying to charge items with the consumer's credit card. The
e-mail goes on to ask the consumer to help correct the problem
by going to the Fraud Department and entering name, address,
Social Security number, and credit card number. Obviously the
goal of this scam is to obtain personal information from
consumers. The link has since been shut down, but there have
been similar e-mails from other companies.
As always, please
be careful when giving out your personal information, as you
never know who is on the other end of the line, unless you
initiated the contact.
