Fight Crime On The Front Lines
If you seek a way to truly make a difference fighting crime
in Mesa, you've found it! As a Patrol Support
volunteer, you will drive a department vehicle to patrol for
suspicious activity and report it to our Communications Center;
direct traffic at accident and other scenes; provide visible
police presence near schools during the times that students
travel to and from; make contact with citizens who have left
their garage doors open; walk through stores to be a visible
deterrent to crime and make courtesy contact with merchants;
provide supplies to officers (such as traffic cones, water,
flares, etc.); and conduct perimeter vacation checks on homes as
requested by citizens.
Desired Skills: Ability to successfully
complete training in Defensive Driving, Traffic Direction, Use
of the Police Radio, and Patrol Support Policy & Procedures;
ability to perform traffic direction in an intersection from a
few minutes up to an hour; ability to perform these tasks in a
variety of weather conditions; ability to lift up to 25 pounds;
ability to follow oral-written instructions; ability to develop
and maintain effective working relationships with Patrol, Crime
Analysis, and partner volunteers; must represent the department
professionally to citizens.
Special Requirements: Must possess a valid
driver's license.
Hours Needed: Very flexible; volunteers are
needed 24/7 in all four patrol districts.
