Over the years, Mesa has consistently been recognized as a top city in which to live. Most recently, Mesa was named one of the "Best Cities for Families" by Parenting magazine. In addition, Mesa Public Schools consistently ranks at the top of the achievement lists.

Mesa is also one of the most affordable places to live. According to research conducted by Arizona State University, resale home prices are among the top 5 most affordable in the metropolitan area. The Housing Opportunity Index (HOI) for a given area is defined as the share of homes sold in that area that are affordable to a family earning the median income.
