Classroom full of kids

The City of Mesa offers a FREE natural gas safety program for elementary schools within Mesa's natural gas service area. The 45-minute interactive presentation is designed to fall within state standards for grades 4th thru 6th grade and will enhance student knowledge of science, energy, and natural gas.  Students will learn how natural gas energy is used safely in their daily lives.

The presentation includes a short video and instruction on the following:

  • What is energy?
  • Natural gas as an energy source
  • History of natural gas
  • How we get and transport natural gas
  • Uses of natural gas
  • Properties and characteristics of natural gas
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Natural gas safety
  • Underground utilities

To reinforce the information presented, the students participate in a natural gas game.  Each student receives natural gas safety information to take home and share with family members.
