FCI Constructors, Inc., is
the Construction Manager at Risk contractor (CMAR) for this
project which is located at 5763 E. Main Street.
Fire Station 220 Grand Opening was held October 23, 2012 at
10:00 am.
Project completed.
Fire Station 220 is a voter-approved bond project planned to
help meet the demand for emergency call volume in growth and
enhance emergency response times. This will be the fourth fire
station built since 2009 and will help serve central east Mesa.
It will be the second City of Mesa building to be LEED
certified.
The goal is to achieve LEED “Gold” certification. This is
part of the requirement to receive the FEMA grant.
Examples of “green building” features
will include a photovoltaic solar electric system (solar
panels), a solar hot water system, and an ICF (Insulated
Concrete Form) wall system at the exterior walls to provide R40
+/- insulation value.
The project consists of approximately The approximately 13,900
square foot single story building will be constructed on a
2.3-acre parcel located at the southwest corner of Main and 58th
Streets. The station will include four apparatus bays that exit
onto 58th Street, living quarters for the fire- 2 fighters,
including six dorm rooms for firefighters and two dorm rooms for
captains, and a community/training room available for public
use. The project will construct half street improvements on 58th
Street and adds a median opening with a traffic signal on Main
Street.
The recommended total award amount
for this project is $4,323,862.40, based on the low bid of
$3,930,784.00 plus an additional $393,078.40 (10% allowance for
change orders). Funding is available in the FY10/11 Fire Bond
Capital Program ($2,303,862.40) and from the ARRA-SCG grant
($2,020,000).
