McDowell & Recker Park
A public meeting was held on October 1, 2013 at the Red Mountain
Center to allow citizens to view renderings of the park and
Construction is tentatively scheduled February 2014 and is
estimated to be completed in October 2014.
At the northeast corner of McDowell and Recker Road is a
beautiful 6-acre piece of land covered in native desert
vegetation and a 60 foot high knoll that is centered in the
parcel. The site is currently a open space with a city
reservoir that has been well positioned on the north slope of the
The City of Mesa has programmed a sensitive approach to
utilizing the property for non-motorized recreational uses
through a wide variety of trails and viewing pods. The plan
includes a 1-mile multi-use walking/hiking trail that is the key
backbone trail designed for most user levels. A 1-mile
long mountain biking trail will meander up and down while
circling the central knoll to create a variety of riding
conditions. The controlled, yet rugged bike trail will provide a
true mountain bike experience. The park will also include a BMX
track, restrooms, ramadas and parking.
