Eagles Park (Mesa Jr High Community Conversion) Project No. CP0211

Project Updates

The Mesa Public Schools are completed with demolition activities. After demolition is completed, the City of Mesa will proceed with construction of the new sports complex (Fall 2015).

The City of Mesa has selected EPS Group, Inc. as the Designer and Valley Rain Construction Corporation as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) to join the project team.  Currently, the team is completing the site survey and gathering background information.  In February 2014, the team will begin developing a site master plan.

A public meeting was held May 15, 2014, to gather public input.

Project Schedule

The City of Mesa will present the sports complex master plan at a public meeting to be scheduled in late Spring / early Summer.

Construction activities are expected to begin in late Summer with construction of a new bus access just north of Lowell Elementary School.  A break in construction is anticipated from the time the bus access is completed until Fall 2014.

Project Details

The City of Mesa is working in conjunction with Mesa Public Schools to redevelop certain school properties with additional recreational opportunities in response to changing enrollment patterns within the school district.

Mesa Public Schools has determined that enrollment patterns no longer support Mesa Junior High School and the 2011/2012 school year was its last. The majority of the buildings on this campus are in need of significant renovation. The School District has asked the City to partner on converting the campus into a 30-acre recreational sports complex. Features proposed for inclusion are lighted soccer fields and lighted youth baseball fields.  The City plans to reuse the existing school gymnasium.  The reuse of the auditorium and cafeteria buildings is being evaluated.  The sports complex will be constructed in phases in accordance with available funding and anticipated usage.
