Fly Friendly Zone (FFZ) Noise Abatement Program
Purpose:
The Falcon Field Airport (FFZ) Fly Friendly Program
aims to establish a partnership between aviation and
community stakeholders to ensure that flight
operations at FFZ have a minimal effect on the
surrounding community while balancing airport
business needs as much as possible.
Stakeholders:
General Background:
In 2007 the City
began recommending that pilots comply with
nationally-recognized noise abatement guidelines
published by the Aircraft Owners & Pilots
Association and the National Business Aviation
Association. The City also invited key
stakeholders to be members of a Falcon Field Airport
Noise Committee to establish and maintain
communication about aircraft noise.
The Fly Friendly
Zone (FFZ) program is the next step in promoting the noise
abatement guidelines and also to demonstrate action
by creating procedures that respond to
community concerns about the increasing number of
aircraft operations.
Tenants, pilots and residents are encouraged to
participate in the Fly Friendly program by
submitting ideas about how Falcon Field can be a
better neighbor. The airport has also added features
that will help the community learn about the airport
and allow them the opportunity to share their views,
comments and opinions. They include an Airport Comment hotline at (480) 644-6647,
aircraft comment form, yearly open
house events, airport tours for the public and
stakeholder committee meetings.
Falcon Pride
The "Falcon Pride" section features comments
submitted to the City of Mesa reflecting actions
taken by airport tenants and users that promote "Fly
Friendly" procedures at Falcon Field. By posting
these comments, the City seeks to recognize and
further promote activities that positively build on
the airport's reputation as a good neighbor to the
surrounding community.
