Uniform Program
Mesa Fire implemented a new uniform program in July 2000.
Approximately 436 fire personnel participate in this program.
The amount of uniform allowance is in accordance with job
position and uniform requirements.
- Sworn and civilian personnel who are required to wear
uniform 100% of work time receive $550.00 per year.
- Civilian office staff are required to wear uniform
part-time and receive $275.00 per year.
- Civilian staff, supplementing other uniform
requirements, receive $137.50 per year.
The individual's uniform allowance is distributed through a
voucher system twice a year dividing the allowance in half.
Distribution times are July 1st and January 1st of each fiscal
year.
Uniform items are purchased with the vouchers at three
different vendors within a 25 mile radius from downtown Mesa.
Uniform items include T-shirts, polo shirts, physical training
shorts, sweatshirts, light and heavy jackets, two styles of
baseball caps, station shorts and trousers, boonie hats, visors,
knit caps, two styles of belts, and Class A uniform items, and
cargo shorts for men and women.
The Class A uniform includes dress pants, white or blue (long
or short sleeve) shirts and tie for all fire personnel. Blazers,
skirts, white blouses, and ascots are available as an optional
Class A for female fire personnel.
A database is maintained to track the amount of uniform
allowance for each member, as well as the items purchased.
Details on date of purchase, quantities of each item, cost,
invoice number, and vendor are entered into the database.
