The
East Valley Area Special Olympics is very
excited to announce the 2009 – 2010 Unified
Friendship Golf League event. This is a great
new opportunity for athletes and partners to
improve their golf skills, make new friends and
to play nine holes on a variety of fantastic
golf courses in the East Valley.
Each golfer and partner is responsible for
raising the funds necessary to keep the league
going through the Thunderbirds "Birdies
for Charities" program at the annual FBR
Open (Feb2010). The success of this program is
going on its fourth year has experience a
phenomenal growth over the last three years. We
are now at a pivotal point of the program to
ensure that we keep the pace of the game at the
new standard set by our unified teams. This year
we have asked all of our league partners to
participate in a the
FUNdamentals of Golf class that will surely
improve our partners and athletes approach to
the game of golf and keep out league at a Fast
Paced, don’t hold me up, keep it moving and let
me "grip it and rip it" for an eagle or birdie
putt!!!
The experience awarded by the Unified Friendship
League athletes and partners the opportunity has
become an integral part in the lives of some new
friends established at with our golf courses
personnel.
In the past we’ve had the privilege of
participating together side by side with the
JGAA players in the Les Wimpy Memorial Golf
tournament from which a resounding support of
appreciation was given to our league players as
well as the JGAA players for a true
Sportsmanship event. As you can see, we have
touched many new lives in the short time of our
existence and plan on touching many more as our
league continues to grow with new athletes and
partners.
We look forward to an enjoyable fun filled 2009
- 2010 seasons. For our community friends
viewing and visiting this site, we hope that you
will be so kind in providing your support by
making a contribution through the "Birdies
for Charities" or a direct contribution to
this league. A mother and daughter of one of our
athlete’s said it best – "This is all they
(athlete’s) have! That’s why we do what we can
for them as they give us more than we’ll ever
give them."
