G.A.I.N. Party Tips

  • Send out invitations at least 2 weeks in advance. Be sure to give the date, time, location and approximate length of the party. Indicate alternate plans/location should it rain.
  • Assign one person to handle the RSVPs, preferably someone with voice mail, an answering machine or e-mail. In taking an RSVP, get the person's name, address, phone number, the number of people coming and ages of any children. You may also want to write down what type of food that person is planning to bring.
  • Have name tags ready with each person's name and house number. If everyone coming knows each other, you can skip the name tags.
  • In addition to food that people bring, have one person responsible for paper plates, napkins, utensils; one person for ice; and another for soda/juice/water.
  • If you want to have your party in the street, rather than a yard or driveway, call City of Mesa Transportation at 480-644-2160 to arrange for barricades at least two weeks prior to your event. If you are blocking off your street, you must use barricades.
  • If younger children are attending, place some sheets or blankets on the ground for them to play on. You can even provide some toys there for them to play with.
  • Provide several large trash containers.
  • Ask guests to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
  • Be generous with food.
  • Just in case, have a first aid kit handy.
  • If you barbeque, keep children away from the grill.
  • Take pictures. Post them on your neighborhood Web site.
  • Ask local merchants to donate food, prizes or gift certificates. Even money saving coupons will make good giveaways to those who attend. The Mesa Police Department has a sample dontation letter in the G.A.I.N. packet for your use. The Mesa Police Department is not a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
