The ABC's of Safety

A is for ALWAYS
Always check with an adult before you go anywhere. Make sure a grown-up knows where you are at all times.
B is for BUDDY
Always walk and play with at least one friend, never alone.
C is for CHOICES
Make good choices. Stay away from guns, drugs and gangs.
D is for DECISION
Learn how to make good decisions. Don't act without stopping to think of what could happen.
E is for EMERGENCY!
Dial 911 in an emergency if you need help from the police or the fire department.  Know your name, address and phone number.
F is for FEET FIRST
When you go swimming, check to make sure it is safe to dive or jump into the pool or lake. Never swim alone!
G is for GUN
If you see a gun, it's time to run!  If you find a gun, don't touch it. Go tell an adult immediately.
H is for HALLOWEEN
Give your costume a safety check. Wear reflective tape to be seen at night. Have your parents check your treats.
I is for INTERNET
Don't give out your personal information online. This includes setting all your privacy settings to "friends only."  Do not meet someone in person that you've met online.
J is for JOIN
Join a club or an after-school activity group where you can make new friends.
K is for KNOW
Know your name, address, and phone number, including area code. Also know your parent's names and their work phone numbers.
L is for LOCKS
Keep your doors and windows locked. Asked an adult if it is okay to answer the door when you are home alone.
M is for MODERATE
If you visit chat rooms, use a "moderated" chat room where someone "referees" -- this protects from abusive people in the chat room.
N is for "NO"
If someone offers you drugs, cigarettes or alcohol, just say "NO."  Learn to say "NO" when something doesn't look right or feel right to you.
O is for OFFICER
Law enforcement officers (police officers) are there to help you. Say "hi" when you see them in your neighborhood.
P is for PERMISSION
Always ask for permission before you do anything or go anywhere with anyone at any time.  Always tell someone who is taking care of you, where you will be and when you will be back.
Q is for QUESTION
Don't be afraid to ask questions about safety. Everyone has questions.
R is for RULES
Rules are to help keep you safe. Always follow safety rules.
S is for SEATBELT
Always buckle up! Fasten your seatbelt whenever you ride in a car, truck or van. If you have younger brothers, sisters or friends, remind them to buckle up, too!
T is for TRAFFIC
Stop and look both ways and listen for vehicles before you cross the street.
U is for UNCOMFORTABLE
If someone makes you feel uncomfortable with their words or their touch, tell a grown-up you trust.
V is for VISION
Save your eyesight. Wear eyewear to protect your eyes whenever you need it.
W is for WHEEL SAFETY
Bikes, blades and boards...always wear a helmet. Knee and elbow pads will help protect you, too!
X is for X-RAY
An X-ray is a picture of your insides. It is taken by a big machine. Sometimes, when you get hurt, the doctor will order X-rays to find out what is wrong. X-rays don't hurt. Play safe!
Y is for YES!
Say "YES" to friends and activities that keep you safe and make you feel good about yourself.
Z is for ZONE
Help keep your school and neighborhood a drug-free, smoke-free and gang-free zone.
