Knife
April 14, 2008
On
April 12, 2008 at 2:10 a.m., the Mesa Police Department arrested
21-year-old Malcolm Gerard Jones of Mesa on suspicion of armed
robbery at 2010 E. Main Street.
Officers responded to the 7-11 convenience store at 2010 E. Main
Street after the store clerk called police to report a possible
armed robbery of a customer. The investigation revealed that the
34-year-old male victim was inside the 7-11 when Jones
approached him from behind. Jones grabbed the victim around his
neck with one arm, demanded money, and held a knife to the
victim's abdomen with his other hand.
The victim was able to free himself before Jones could stab him
and immediately contacted a store employee at which point the
police were called. Jones did not obtain money from the victim;
however, he did remain in the store until police arrived.
Upon arrival, a patrol officer located Jones inside the store,
standing at the front counter. Jones was positively identified
as the suspect and officers located an open pocket knife on his
person that was allegedly used during the commission of the
crime. At the time of his capture, Jones showed physical signs
of heavy alcohol impairment. Jones was booked on suspicion of
Armed Robbery.
