Robbery Suspect Shot By Convenience Store Clerk

On May 4, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. the Mesa Police Department responded
to the report of a shooting at the Arco Mesa Mart located at
1510 S. Country Club.
Upon arrival investigators learned that the 30-year-old male
suspect entered the convenience store, struck the clerk on the
head with a blunt object and demanded money from the cash
register. The clerk attempted to deploy a Taser at the suspect,
but was not successful. The struggle continued and the clerk
produced a gun. The clerk shot the suspect several times, ending
the struggle and the robbery attempt.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he is
currently listed in critical condition. The clerk was
transported to a local hospital where he was treated and
released. The incident is currently under investigation. The
identities of the parties involved will be released pending the
filing of criminal charges.
