Mesa Police Remind Citizens To Secure Vehicles
November 19, 2008
East Mesa has recently experienced an increase in burglaries
from unsecured vehicles.
The Mesa Police Department Crime Prevention Unit continues to
educate the community on a variety of crime prevention issues.
The Mesa Police Department wants everyone to remember basic
theft prevention measures. During the holiday season, there are
more opportunities for people to become victims of theft and
burglary. An unlocked vehicle is more than just an open
invitation for thieves to steal items from within the vehicle.
This can attract the criminals into your community looking for
additional unsecured vehicles, open garage doors and unsecured
homes.
In many cases, thieves will return to neighborhoods they have
burglarized in hopes of victimizing additional residents. This
may not stop until they are caught OR until the victims begin
taking away the opportunities.
As a resident, you can help to lessen the chance of you becoming
a victim by taking a few precautions:
- Lock ALL vehicles.
- Do not leave any items in view in your vehicle.
- Make sure your garage door is completely shut at all
times.
- Secure your vehicle, even if you park it inside a
garage, just in case the garage door is left open
unintentionally.
- Never leave a garage door opener in a vehicle parked in
the driveway.
Mesa Police encourages residents to report any suspicious
activity by calling 480-644-2211.
