Officers Cleared of Criminal Charges

On June 1, 2009 Mesa Police officers responded to a local motel
reference a reported miscarriage, which raised concerns
regarding proper disposal of the fetus. The involved officers
were administratively reassigned pending a complete
investigation.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has reviewed the details
of the case and determined there were no criminal actions on the
part of the officers. Charges will not be filed.
The procedures, policies and protocols of the Mesa Police
Department are, and will continue to be, evaluated to ensure
proper direction and guidelines are in place for officers. The
Mesa Police Department and Mesa Fire Department have worked
together on a joint protocol to ensure this type of incident
does not occur in the future. We continue to work closely with
the Mesa Fire Department to provide the best possible service to
the residents of Mesa.
