On December 3, 2010 at approximately 4:00 pm, Mesa officers
responded to Banner Baywood hospital for a report of an injured
child. Medical staff reported that the 4-year-old male had
massive head trauma, as well as additional bruising on his body.
Due to the nature of his injuries, the child was air lifted to
Phoenix Children's hospital The injuries were so serious that
the child was not expected to survive.
Detectives were able to contact the victim's mother, who was not
at home at the time of the injury. She said that the child was
left in the care of her boyfriend, Jorge Busso (23), while she
was at work.
Busso
was contacted at their residence in Mesa, where he was detained
for questioning. Busso said that he was home with the child when
he smelled a foul odor and realized that the child had soiled
himself. As punishment, the child was pushed into a corner where
he was spanked with a belt. Busso claimed that when he was
trying to hold the child in the corner, he hit his head on the
wall causing the injury. When the victim's mother arrived home
from work, she found the child unresponsive, lying in bed. She
immediately took him to the hospital for treatment.
