Carjacking By Police Impersonators
May 12, 2010
Last last night, the Mesa Police Department received a report of
a carjacking in the northwestern area of the city, along S.R.
202. The reporting party told police that he was stopped by a
dark-colored sedan that displayed red and blue lights to the
rear. Two men, who the victim described as wearing vests like
those of police officers, got out of the sedan and force the
victim, at gunpoint. to surrender his vehicle. The suspects fled
with the victim's vehicle.
The Mesa Police Department reminds the public to be careful when
pulling over for vehicles that are not immediately recognizable
as police cars. If you are unsure that the car stopping you is
really a police car drive, at a lawful speed, to a well-lit area
where other people are located before stopping. If the vehicle
attempting to make the stop is a bona fide police vehicle, it
will follow.
