Suspect Arrested For Hit-and-Run Of 10-year-old Boy
March 23, 2010
The Mesa Police Department made an arrest this past weekend
related to a hit and run case that left a 10-year-old boy in
critical condition. Around 12:30 pm today, detectives followed
an anonymous tip to a Subway restaurant in east Mesa. There they
found an older model white Plymouth van with damage to the right
side mirror.
Immediately following the location and vehicle identification,
the suspect, Anthony Luis Lopez, 24, was contacted inside the
business and taken into custody. When questioned about the
incident, Lopez admitted his involvement in the crime. It is
still unclear why he did not stop. Drugs or alcohol is not
suspected in the crime. Lopez has been booked for one count of
leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.
The victim, 10-year-old Donovan Gonzalez of Mesa, remains
hospitalized in serious condition. This case is another great
example of the police department working in conjunction with the
community. The thorough investigation by the Vehicular Crimes
and Forensics units, coupled with a citizen tip, led to the
arrest of Lopez.
