Mesa Police Seek Public Assistance With Death Investigation

On Friday, November 5, 2010 at approxiimately 7:00 pm, Mesa
Police and Mesa Fire responded to a medical call in the parking
lot to the northwest of the Goodwill Store, located at 1346 W.
Southern Avenue in Mesa.
The victim was found unconscious, lying on a raised landscaping
median in the parking lot. There were no signs of bleeding or
trauma. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where it
was determined that he sustained a life-threatening head injury.
On Tuesday, November 9, 2010, the victim died as a result of the
injury. Per the medical examiner, the victim could have
sustained the injury minutes to hours before being discovered.
The manner of death is undtermined.
The
victim's family and friends advised the police that the victim
was transient and always carried a black back pack, containing
miscellaneous clothing, a wallet containing his Arizona driver's
license and birth certificate. None of these items were with or
near the victim when he was located. It is unknown if these
items were taken by force or if the victim left them at an
alternate location to be retrieved at a later time.
The victim, James Hector Toruga (34), seen here in photo, is a
Hispanic male, 5' 8" tall, 150 lbs., with brown eyes and black
hair.
