Mesa Police Charge Suspect With First Degree Murder
November 25, 2010
On Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at approximately 4:48 p.m., Mesa
Police officers responded to the Merritt Trailer Park, 59 S.
Lazona Drive, after receiving a shots-fired call at this
residence. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim,
23-year-old Jonathan Luna Limon, injured from apparent gunshot
wounds. The Mesa Fire Department also responded and rendered
emergency medical assistance to Limon. While they were treating
Limon, Fire Department personnel located a small handgun in his
pants pocket. Jonathan Luna Limon was transported to a hospital,
where he was pronounced deceased.
While at the scene, officers contacted 21-year-old Nidia
Alarcon-Vega, the victim's ex-girlfriend. She initially told
investigators that she could not describe the shooter in this
incident. Additional interviews with Alarcon-Vega uncovered a
different story altogether. Earlier in the day, Jonathan left
with Nidia Alarcon-Vega's 3-year-old daughter, without
permission, from the house. Alarcon-Vega had left with Javier
Machado-Aboites, who is her current boyfriend. Another friend,
who remained at the residence with Alarcon-Vega's two children,
told her that Jonathan had a gun when he left with her daughter.
Around 4:00 p.m., Nidia called Mesa Police requesting a civil
standby because Jonathan wanted her to meet him at Reed Park to
give her daughter back. Shortly thereafter, Nidia called police
back and cancelled the call, stating Jonathan was at her
residence, her daughter was home and she no longer needed a
civil standby.
Jonathan
and Nidia were arguing outside the residence when a Hispanic
male walked up and fired several gunshots, striking Jonathan at
least twice. Nidia initially denied she could identify the
suspect; however, during her interview with homicide
investigators, she identified the current shooter as her
boyfriend, Javier Machado-Aboites.
On Wesneday, November 24, 2010, detectives located Javier
Machado-Aboites (seen here in photo) in Phoenix and
took him into custody without incident. Javier Machado-Aboites
was booked and is currently being held on the charge of First
Degree Murder.
