Mesa Convention Center and Ovation Food Services Host The
M.E.S.A. Program Bnaquet Dinner
May 11, 2010
The Mesa Convention Center and Ovations Food Services are proud
to work in partnership with the Mesa Police Department and the
Mesa Unified School District, in hosting a banquet dinner for
M.E.S.A. Program Class #7.
The
M.E.S.A. (Making Every Student Accountable) Program
originated in 2007 and is a partnership between the Mesa Police
Department, the Mesa Unified School District and other community
organizations and businesses. The program targets 13- to
15-year-old at risk students who exhibit high rates of truancy,
problem behavior, school disciplinary referrals, and/or gang
associations and involvement. Each class undergoes a nine week
session where students are exposed to classroom instruction, as
well as physical fitness. The class topics include lessons on
self awareness, team building, the realities of our choices and
consequences, anger management, life skills, diversity, job
readiness and leadership skills. A parent component is also
included into the nine week session.
The Mesa Convention Center and Ovations have generously donated
their first-class facilities, planning/service staff, and
portions of the food service, in order to make this a memorable
event for the recent program graduates and others in
attendance. Andy Torres, General Manager Ovations Food
Services, stated, "Ovations is honored to partner with the Mesa
Police Department and Mesa Convention Center to offer our
upscale food and beverage services for such a wonderful
community program. I feel this program provides an opportunity
to enhance our commitment to both our community and those that
need guidance and support."
