Mesa Police Department Prepares for Cinco de Mayo DUI Task
Force
May 5, 2011
The Mesa Police Department Traffic Section will be conducting
saturation patrols in search of drug and alcohol impaired
drivers throughout the city this weekend.
Like many holidays, Cinco de Mayo celebrations and social events
often involve alcohol. Unfortunately, across the country each
year a number of people are killed or seriously injured in
alcohol and drug related collisions during the festivities.
These crimes are 100 percent preventable. The purpose of this
task force is to save lives, reduce injuries and prevent
property damage needlessly caused by impaired drivers.
Please join the Mesa PD Traffic Section in our mission by being
vigilant in the pursuit of DUI offenders and remind the public
that it is a crime to drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Task force officers are operating valley-wide to detect and
apprehend impaired drivers. Those wishing to celebrate over the
weekend should consider transportation needs and designate a
driver before drinking. A DUI will cost far
more than a cab ride home! Do not ride with anyone who may be
impaired.
Funding for the East Valley DUI Task Force is provided through a
grant from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety,
under the direction of Alberto Gutier.
