Mesa Police Conduct Independence Day DUI Task Force
Operations
July 4, 2011
The Mesa Police Department Traffic Section will be conducting
saturation patrols throughout the City this weekend. Task Force
Operations will begin on 07/01 and go through 07/04.
Officers from the Mesa Police Department will be conducting
saturation patrols in search of drug and alcohol impaired
drivers. There will be approximately 10 Mesa Police Officers
involved each night, including Drug Recognition Experts.
Chandler PD, Gilbert PD, Scottsdale PD, Tempe PD, and MCSO will
all be participating in these events. Monday's event will target
impaired drivers returning to the east valley from the lake and
river recreation areas.
Like many holidays, Independence Day celebrations and social
events often involve alcohol. Unfortunately, across the country
each year, a number of people are killed or seriously injured in
alcohol and drug related collisions during the festivities.
These crimes are 100 percent preventable. The purpose of this
task force is to save lives, reduce injuries, and prevent
property damage needlessly caused by impaired drivers.
Please join The Mesa PD Traffic Section in our mission by being
vigilant in the pursuit of DUI offenders, and by reminding the
public that it is a crime to drive while impaired by alcohol or
drugs. Task force officers are operating valley wide to detect
and apprehend impaired drivers. Those wishing to celebrate over
the weekend should consider transportation needs and designate a
driver before drinking. A DUI will cost far more than a cab ride
home! Do not drink or use drugs and drive and do not ride with
anyone who has!
Funding for the East Valley DUI Task Force is provided through
grant funding by the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety
under the leadership of Director Alberto Gutier. "Drive
Hammered, Get Nailed."
