Mesa Police Prepare for St. Patrick's Day Sobriety
Checkpoint
March 10, 2011
The Mesa Police Department will be participating in the East
Valley St. Patrick's Day DUI Task Force. The Mesa Police
Department will utilize a combination of DUI saturation patrols
and a sobriety checkpoint during the St. Patrick's Day holiday
weekend. Funding for the East Valley DUI Task Force is provided
through grant funding by the Arizona Governor's Office of
Highway Safety, under the leadership of Director Alberto Gutier.
The goal of the Task Force is to prevent deaths, injuries and
property damage caused by drug and alcohol impaired drivers. The
Mesa Police Department will employ a zero-tolerance approach to
any driver found to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, as well as
any driver or occupant under 21 years of age with alcohol in
their system. The use of a low manpower, mobile sobriety
checkpoint will be the latest addition to an already aggressive
DUI enforcement and educatino program by the Mesa Police
Department.
