Mesa Citizen Police Academy to begin in February

The Mesa Police Department's next Citizen Police Academy is
scheduled to begin on February 15 and will graduate on April 25,
2012. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 10pm
at various police department facilities. Range day will be held
on a Saturday from 8am to 2pm.
The Citizen Police Academy offers a mix of classroom
presentations and hands-on experience which combine to give
students an insight and understanding of law enforcement's role
in our community.
Classes during the eleven week program show what goes into the
making of a police officer. A step-by-step journey that starts
with the hiring process and advances through all facets of
training, from physical fitness and use of force, to
communications, criminal and accident investigation, patrol and
much more.
Presentations will include:
- Traffic
- Civilian Investigators
- DUI
- Homicide
- Gangs
- Street Crimes
- Narcotics
- Crime Lab
- SWAT
- Bombs
- Aviation
- Range Day (you will get to shoot)
Potential candidates must meet the following criteria:
- 19 years of age or older
- Reside or employed in Mesa OR family member of Mesa
Police Department employee
- No prior felony arrests
- No misdemeanor arrests within one year of application
- Pass a background check
