Street Crimes Units (SCU)
The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) assists the Criminal
Investigation Unit (CIU) with the apprehension of wanted suspects and
provides needed surveillance and under cover operations to help further CIU
investigations. They follow up on tips regarding narcotics that come in
through the Narcotics Hotline, the media relations office, detectives,
patrol, crime prevention and the Chief's office.
SCU also develops and
uses informants and sources of information to initiate proactive
investigations to address part one crimes and drug-related
crimes. They assist patrol with surveillance and/or apprehension
operations and any other requests, and focus law enforcement
efforts on identified career criminals living in the City of
Mesa. They are on call 24/7 to respond to high priority
investigations.
