Mesa Police Department Warrant Division
The Warrants Division was formed in 1988. At that time one officer was assigned to handle all of the warrants issued by
the local courts. Five years later, in 1994, the Warrant
Unit received, on average, 900 warrants per month. Today, Sgt. John Rolfe
supervises the Warrant Unit, which consists of 8 full-time Warrant Detectives, a
Police Investigative Assistant, and several volunteers. They receive
approximately 2000 warrants per month. The caseload for each Warrant
Detective (250 per month each) does not stop with Warrant arrests. They
are also responsible for serving Orders of Protection, issued by the Mesa City
Court and Mental Health Detainers. The Warrant Unit works with a zero
tolerance attitude. The Detectives travel throughout the State of Arizona
picking up suspects that have been arrested by other agencies on Mesa City
warrants.
The Warrants Detectives work long hours, sometimes in severe weather,
locating numerous suspects on their daily list of warrants issued by the
courts. They often deal with angry and uncooperative people;
sometimes facing hardened criminals, escaped convicts and killers.
Many of these criminals are captured with the help of the public.
