City Manager's Infrastructure Statements
The City of Mesa has been awarded $4,040,000 for the
construction of Fire Stations 219 and 220. The funding is
dedicated to infrastructure investments, which are described in
more detail below.
Fire Station 219 (Signal Butte and Elliot)
The City determined the construction of Fire Station 219 would
help mitigate increased demand for emergency services in areas
of east Mesa. Station 219 will reduce response times and better
the fire departments capability of protecting Mesa’s citizens.
The fire station construction project will incorporate the
sustainable practices listed in the Guiding Principles for
Sustainable New Construction and Major Renovations and achieve
United States Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design registration at certified, Silver, Gold or
Platinum level.

City Cost: $1,863,262 (estimated)
FEMA Funding for Project: $2, 020,000
Fire Station 220 (Main and 58th Street)
Due to an increase in service demand there is a need for Fire
Station 220. The fire station will reduce response times and

The City of Mesa has been awarded $4,219,000 to implement energy
efficiency projects in our municipal government facilities. A
portion of this funding is dedicated to infrastructure
investments, which are described in more detail below.
City Building Energy Retrofits
The retrofits will include energy saving measures such as new
lighting, re-roofing, and more energy efficient equipment. A
separate portion of the EECBG funding will allow the City to
have experts evaluate the most cost efficient methods to use for
the facilities. Because this evaluation has not yet occurred,
the specific details of what portion of the funding will be for
each project have not been determined.

Streetlights
LED lights (light emitting diodes) have been proven to save
significant amounts of energy. This technology has been
incorporated into streetlights. The City of Mesa plans to
install approximately 2,500 LED streetlights throughout the
City.

Solar Energy Generation
Mesa plans to install solar generation equipment at the Central
Arizona Project (CAP) Water Treatment Plant. This solar project
will generate approximately 120,000 kWh annually. The solar
equipment is forecasted to produce 2.7 million kWh of energy
over the 25 year life of the system.
