Monthly Safety Message

Important notice regarding underground buried gas lines

The City of Mesa owns, operates and maintains the gas piping system up to and including the meter found outside a home or business. Piping from the gas meter to every gas appliance, indoors and out, belongs to the property owner and is the owner’s responsibility to maintain, much like plumbing and electrical systems.

To maintain the safest system and to avoid potential hazards of corrosion or leakage on the customer’s side of the meter, the City of Mesa encourages periodic inspections for leaks and corrosion (rust). If an unsafe condition is discovered and you need repairs, a licensed industry professional can assist you.

Call the City of Mesa at 480-644-4277 (GASS) if you damage the meter or smell gas around the meter.  Call 911 for emergencies.
