  • Electronics & Fluorescent Light Bulb Recycling

Visit the electronics and fluorescent light bulb recycling page for alternative recycling options.

  • Medical Sharp Disposal

Medical sharps are objects, such as syringes, needles and lancets that are used for insulin intake, blood samples and for other medical purposes.  Improper disposal of sharps can pose a serious health and safety hazard.  Medical sharps should be placed in a thick plastic or metal container with a tight fitting lid such as a bleach or liquid detergent bottle.  Once 3/4-full, secure the lid with heavy-duty tape and write the words "Not Recyclable" on the container with a black, permanent marker.  After following these steps, you can place the container in your regular black trash barrel.

  • Paint Disposal

If you have water based latex paint and can't wait until the next Household Hazardous Waste Collection event, please follow these simple steps for proper disposal.

    • Remove the lid from the paint can and let the paint completely dry.
    • Once it is dry, place the lid back on the container and dispose of it in your black trash barrel.  This will prevent the paint from spilling on the street when the trash truck services your barrel.

**NOTE: Oil based paint is not accepted in the trash barrel and must be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event.

  • Prescription Drug Disposal

Federal prescription drug disposal guidelines urge residents to dispose of any unused, unneeded or expired medication in the trash or take them to a pharmaceutical take-back location for safe disposal.  Residents are being asked to avoid throwing them down the drain as the drugs may pass through sewage treatment plants and septic tanks into surface waters, soils, and the groundwater.

Mesa PD has drop-off boxes located at each of their sub-stations.  Visit our prescription disposal page to find the nearest location.
