October 10, 8:30 a.m.:
Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony on site at 212 E. 1st Ave.
Led by Dr. Ruth Tan Lim. Each Peace Pole is a handcrafted
monument that displays the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth"
on each side of the pole in multiple languages.
October 13 from 10-11:30 a.m.:
High Five for Fall: 5 Simple Tips for Cultivating Your Garden
for Fall with Vynnie McDaniels who has been gardening in the
Phoenix area for over 15 years, teaching organic gardening and
holistic living. Location will be at the garden site, 212 E.
1st Ave. Don't miss this fun program and exciting presenter-
learn more!
September:
Break Your Ground: Enlist with Mesa Urban Garden
is an open meeting and presentation about this new community
garden located in downtown Mesa. Learn more about Mesa Urban
Garden, and then see how you'd like to participate. You may be
interested in renting a garden bed for the year to grow your own
produce, or you may want to learn more about volunteer positions
available. Two dates are available: Sat. Sept. 22 from 10:30
a.m. to Noon or Wed. Sept. 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both will take
place at Mesa Main Library.
If you were unable to attend, but would like to take on a
Volunteer Position, fill out our interest form.
The
9/11 National Day of Service - Mesa Urban Garden
Community Build took place on Tue., Sept. 11 from 6 a.m. to
11 a.m. It was a great success! Over 70 volunteers were willing
to "dig in" and get garden beds installed. See

for a workday on September 11. Stay tuned for
public meetings on how the public can get involved during the

Mesa Urban Garden has worked very hard to create a plan and to
get City approval for the plan and use of the land. There is
still a lot of work to do as they embark on construction,
installation and operation of the garden.
Please get
involved! To list your name for specific
interest areas or if you desire a specific role in this
community garden project submit this
interest
form.
July 2:
Council approved
use of the site at 212 E. 1st Avenue. See the
Mesa Urban Garden presentation to Mesa City Council.
June 28:
Mesa Urban
Garden is presenting to Mesa City Council on Mon. July 2 at
4:30. A resolution for use of a City parcel on First Avenue is
on the agenda. If all goes well, there may be an informal
ground-breaking at 7:30 a.m. on July 5. Stay tuned!
"From Idea to
Action Plan"
submittals were turned in on Feb. 16! Six
submittals were received.

Steps to Starting a Community Garden
took
place on Sat. Jan. 21.
