Mayor Proclaims Public Power and Public Natural Gas
Week
Mayor Scott Smith
proclaimed October 5-11 as Public Power and Public
Natural Gas Week, honoring the City of Mesa
Utilities Department as one of 15 publicly-owned
utilities in Arizona that provide electric and
natural gas service to their customers. The
department serves
more than 15,000 electric customer connections in
Mesa and 53,000 natural gas customer connections in
Mesa and
Pinal County.
“Public Power and Public Natural Gas Week is an
opportunity to emphasize the city’s role in
providing safe and reliable electricity and natural
gas to all of our customers,” said Mayor Scott
Smith. “Our employees are dedicated to providing
safe, reliable and low-cost energy to our
community.”
As a community-owned
utility, Mesa’s top priority is to provide reliable,
top quality service to our customers. The
department also provides efficient, competitive and
responsive water and sewer service for the benefit
of all customers.
Public power and gas
customers benefit from utility policies that are
established by local officials who live and work in
their community. That local control, joined with
local operation, benefits our community by allowing
revenue to stay “home” and enabling our community to
grow and prosper.
The department
employs a team of 333 individuals, including line
workers, gas and electric technicians, support
staff, and administrative personnel. Public utility
employees live in and near the communities in which
they serve, and are readily available in the event
of an emergency or natural disaster.
