Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
The VITA program offers free tax help to low to
moderate income community members who cannot prepare
their own tax returns. Volunteers receive training
to help prepare basic tax returns. Last year
volunteers returned more than $1 million, directly
to more than 892 low-income individuals and their
families. Because of this service, they are able to
send a child to college, get a better job, repair
their home and save money for their future. VITA
sites are located at community and neighborhood
centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls and
other convenient locations. Most locations also
offer free electronic filing. There are several
different job functions within the VITA program, Tax

Neighbors Helping
Neighbors
Volunteers are needed to assist Mesa
residents who, due to limited financial resources
and/or physical limitations, are experiencing
difficulties maintaining the condition of their
home, yard, or adjacent alley. Past projects have
included painting the exterior of homes, yard
maintenance, and debris removal. Mesa residents, who
have a sincere and bona fide need for service, can
request one-time assistance through the special
project program.
Park Clean Up
Parks includes first come first serve ramadas,
playground equipment,
lighted basketball court, picnic tables, &
barbeques. A park is essential for recreation and
quality of life for surrounding residents. All
parks play and important role in defining our city,
our communities, and the individuals who live here.
The benefits to parks are endless, which is why it
is important to keep them maintained. Parks are
always in need of a little “TLC”, which will include
cleaning playground equipment, raking sand, picking
up trash, giving a fresh coat of paint to BBQ
grills, electrical boxes, ramadas, trashcans and
benches.
Alley Clean Up
Clean alleys is a deterrent to crime, addresses
public health, increases esthetic value, and
provides easy access to rear of property for
emergency vehicles. Some alleys require just a few
trimmings and some trash removal, others are a bit
larger project with graffiti removal and perhaps
landscape.
Office Support
Administrative and project support volunteers assist
with program development and maintenance, paid and
volunteer staff support, customer service, answering
phones and a variety of exciting assignments. More

way to gain marketable career skills while being the
“glue” that holds our internal systems together.
