Mesa’s Downtown Sign Program is a grant program made possible by Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community funding. The program reimburses up to 100% of the cost for new signs or the maintenance of existing legal or legal non-conforming signs. Permit and encroachment fees (if applicable) are not covered by the grant. Property owners or tenants may apply (with Owner’s approval) and select their own sign company to complete the work.
This is a competitive grant with limited funding. Participants will be selected based on evaluation criteria. See the Application below for details.
The grant amount is not defined and will be determined based on the need, value and benefit to the public urban environment of each proposed project. Generally, projects requesting less than $10,000 will be more competitive than those requesting a larger amount.
Complete designs are not required with the application. But, applicants should meet with a qualified sign company to evaluate and price the sign prior to submission.
The Downtown Sign Grant Program received 25 applications totaling over $190,000 in requests! Thanks to everyone who submitted an application. The program awarded 15 signs to downtown businesses (listed below). Business names with an (N) are anticipated to include neon or neon-like sign lighting.
Installations are anticipated to begin January 2020
