Early Childhood Education
Task Force Report 2016

Phase I Report [PDF]

Background: Attracting top businesses and quality jobs to Mesa requires a highly educated workforce and that education begins before our children reach kindergarten. Mesa has always been a community committed to education. When families with young children moved to the Valley, they were often pointed toward Mesa due to our strong Mesa Public School District and other east valley districts serving Mesa residents. Based on discussions with professionals in education, there appears to be a growing challenge of more Mesa kids showing up to kindergarten unprepared to learn.

Mission: Based on this discussion, Mayor John Giles, with concurrence of the entire Mesa City Council formed a task force of key community leaders in education, health and business. The task force will discuss and define key challenge(s) in providing Pre-K/early childhood education to more young students in Mesa and explore ways to ensure Mesa’s children arrive at Kindergarten ready and able to learn. The task force will convene in December 2015 and is expected to conclude their work in approximate six months.
