2019-2020

STUDENT HISTORICAL FICTION WRITING and VIDEO CONTEST

Sponsored by the Mesa Historic Preservation Board

The Mesa Historic Preservation Board invites Mesa students to participate in the 2019-2020 Historical Writing and Video Contest. All students who reside in Mesa and are enrolled in grades 4-6, are eligible to submit entries to the essay contest, and Mesa students in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in the video contest.

 Students may choose to write a fictional story or produce a video explicating one of the following topics: 

  1.  How did water help Mesa grow?
  2.  How did the Air Force Bases help Mesa during World War II?
  3.  Mesa's first: schools, families, grocery stores, hardware stores, or post offices (choose two)

OR students may choose to conduct an oral history interview of a Mesa citizen aged 60 or older who grew up in Mesa and recount his or her story.  

A committee of Mesa Historic Preservation Board members will select the top three essays, and the following prizes will be awarded.  These three winners will be presented with their award money and a certificate at a future televised Mesa City Council meeting.

       1st Place : $50             2nd Place : $30                  3rd Place: $20

CONTESTS ARE OPEN FROM DECEMBER 10, 2019 TO MARCH 27, 2020.

IMPORTANT:

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE DELIVERED OR POSTMARKED
