The Records Division serves as the central repository for all police reports and related records. Records produces a monthly statistical report, which is sent to the FBI for tracking crime.
Obtaining Copies of Reports

Citizens wishing to obtain a copy of a police report may request one by mail. Victims of a criminal offense may receive one free copy of a report in which they are listed as the victim. (This does not include video/audio tapes or photos.) ARS 13-4401.19 defines victim as a person against whom the criminal offense as been committed, or if the person is killed or incapacitated, the person's spouse, parent, child or other lawful representative, except if the person is in custody for the offense or is accused.
For others, the copy fee for police reports is $5.00 for the first 50 pages and $0.20 a page thereafter. Certified copies are an additional $10.00 per report.
To process a request, please use the Public Records Request form and provide a report number (if available), date, time, and location of the incident, or name(s) of the person(s) involved. Requests for copies may take 14 days or more to process, depending on the nature of the incident and if the case is still under investigation.

Mesa Adult Arrest Record Search (MAARS)
A MAARS request is a search of the Mesa Police Department's records based on a name, date of birth, and social security number (when applicable), in which criminal charges have been filed. The results are presented to the requestor in the form of a notarized letter, which states whether the search had a positive or negative result. A positive letter will list any criminal charges which have been filed by the date, type of offense involved, Mesa report number and the court assigned.
A picture ID issued by a government agency is required. If requesting via mail, a notarized photocopy of the picture ID is required. If picking up request for another person, a notarized letter with picture ID of the requestor is required.
Some examples of why an individual would request a MAARS: to acquire a Visa; requested by an employer; requested by an adoption agency; requested by owner of rental property; for personal records. Some agencies refer to this document as a "letter of clearance." There is a $10 charge for this service. Checks should be made out to: Mesa Police Department.
