What do I need to know about replacing my roof?
You can replace your roof with the same roof material type or better, if you follow the manufacturer's instructions. If your home is historic, Planning approval is required.

Can I install a metal patio cover or awnings?
Yes, you can install light metal patio covers and awnings. Construction permit may be required. Height and location requirements do apply. For RV parks and mobile home parks, additional park authorization and city construction permit requirements apply.

What if I have an emergency repair?
If you need to make emergency repairs that requires a permit, submit your construction permit application by the next business day.

Can I replace my windows without a permit?
You can replace windows with ones that have the same or better energy ratings, if they fit the same size opening. Remember, sleeping room windows must have a clear opening of at least 5.7 square feet for safety. If you’re changing the size or converting to a door, you will need a permit. If your home is historic, Planning approval is required.

Do I need a permit to replace my air conditioning unit?
You don’t need a permit if your new air conditioning unit uses the same or less electricity as the old one. If you’re changing the electrical connections, you will need a construction permit.

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater?
No Permit Required: For residential replacements of gas and electric water heaters of equal or lesser rating.

Notification Required: Notify the serving Gas Utility before energizing appliances.

Are there rules for solar power systems?
Yes, solar power systems under 10,000 square feet that are certified by a recognized agency and installed by a licensed Arizona contractor no not need a construction permit. However, new electric meters or circuits will require a permit. If your home is historic, Planning approval is required.
