Central Mesa Reuse Pipeline

decorative

Design of the 10.5-mile Central Mesa Reuse Pipeline (CMRP) to deliver reclaimed water treated at the Northwest Water Reclamation Plant (NWWRP) to the Gila River Indian Community in exchange for Colorado River water supplies as part of an existing exchange agreement. This project will add essential infrastructure to help maximize the City’s diverse water portfolio.

South of Baseline Road - Claiborne Avenue

  • Claiborne Avenue is currently CLOSED north of Millbrae Lane between Millbrae Lane and Moore Avenue (entry to Pravada) for crews to trench and install pipeline in Claiborne Avenue. Access will be maintained for Pravada residents with work being conducted one-half at a time across that entryway. Side streets within the closure area may also be closed at Claiborne Avenue, with alternate access provided. Detour signage is in place to direct travelers around the closure.
  • Scheduled to take place approximately May 15, this work will move further north, and Claiborne Avenue will be CLOSED between Moore Avenue and north of Harwell Road. Harwell Road will be closed at Claiborne Avenue to accommodate this work with detour signage in place to direct travelers around the closure.

Baseline Road - Pierpont Drive to Claiborne Avenue

  • Crews continue work in Pierpont Drive just north of Baseline Road to trench and install pipeline into Baseline Road.
  • Scheduled to begin in late May, work will take place on the north side of Baseline Road from Pierpont Drive to the Claiborne Avenue alignment. This work will then cross Baseline Road by boring (tunneling) under the roadway. This work will require a pit to be excavated on the south side of Baseline Road in Claiborne Ave and on the north side of Baseline Road. Claiborne Avenue will be closed at Baseline Road to accommodate this work.

Greenfield Road - Between Southern Avenue & Broadway Road

(PIPELINE INSTALLATION COMPLETE - FINAL PAVING)

  • An asphalt mill (removal) and overlay of Greenfield Road, between Southern Avenue and Broadway Road, is currently taking place. This work is taking place in a phased manner to maintain traffic on Greenfield Road, with lane and turn restrictions in place, as needed.
  • Work is currently taking place in the east side of Greenfield Road, between Southern Avenue and Broadway Road, with paving of the base course (bottom layer) of asphalt on the east side of Greenfield Road scheduled to take place May 7-9.
  • Work will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 7-8, to mill (remove) asphalt and pave through the Diamond intersection, with the intersection remaining open for travel during this work and minimal restrictions as the paving crosses through.
  • Scheduled to take place Monday, May 12, Greenfield Road traffic will be shifted to the respective curb lanes for work to take place in the middle of Greenfield Road. Left turns may be restricted near the Broadway Road and Southern Avenue intersection, with paving currently scheduled for May 15.
  • Temporary striping will then take place until the final course (top layer) of asphalt can be applied. In addition, crews will work to install traffic loops, which detect vehicles at the intersection to trigger the traffic signal, at signalized intersection.
  • Following this work, crews will still need to apply a final course (top layer) of asphalt utility adjustments, and final striping to complete work in this area.

Greenfield Road - Broadway Road to Main Street

  • Crews are nearing completion on pipeline work between Broadway Road and Main Street, with an asphalt pavement mill (removal) and overlay scheduled to begin sometime in June. More information will be provided as that work is scheduled.

Greenfield Road - Between Main Street & University Drive

  • Pipeline installation continues in Greenfield Road north of Main Street, currently just north of the Fry's Plaza. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction, shifted to the west side of Greenfield Road north of Main Street, with left turn restrictions in place, as needed, to accommodate the work.
  • Crews are working to complete concrete work north of Main Street, scheduled to remove and reconstruct the Main Greenfield Plaza driveway, beginning Monday, May 5, with the Greenfield driveway closed for 1-2 weeks and alternate access available from Main Street.

Greenfield Road - Between University Drive & Brown Road

  • Crews are currently working to trench and install pipeline in Greenfield Road north of University Drive working in a northerly direction, currently just north of Covina Street.
  • Greenfield Rd traffic is shifted to the west side of the road, reduced to one lane in each direction with possible left turn restrictions in place. As the work crosses side streets or driveways, access may be restricted; however, crews will ensure alternate access is available.
  • Dover Street is scheduled to be closed on the east side of Greenfield Road beginning Monday, May 5 through Wednesday, May 14. Detour signage will be placed to direct travelers around the closure.

40th Street, Brown Road to McLellan Road

  • Crews are currently working to trench and install pipeline in 40th Street, between Huber Street and Hackamore St/Centre Court entry with 40th Street closed in this area to accommodate the work. As work crosses Hackamore St/Centre Court entry, work will take place one-half at a time across the entryway so that access will be maintained for residents and their visitors.
  • Scheduled for Monday, May 5, this work will move north to the segment between Hackamore Street and Hale Street, with this area closed, and no access to/from Hope Street at 40th Street.
  • This work is scheduled to move to the McLellan Road intersection sometime in mid to late May and then head west in McLellan Road toward Val Vista Drive.
  • This work is being coordinated with residents who have direct (driveway) access to 40th Street.

Val Vista Drive, McKellips Road to Quenton Drive

  • Crews are working to install pipeline in Val Vista Drive currently just south and just north of McKellips Road, working in a northerly direction.
  • Median islands have been removed (to be replaced following the project) between McKellips and McDowell roads.

Val Vista Drive at Thomas Road

  • In mid-May, pipe installation is scheduled to cross through the Val Vista Drive and Thomas Road intersection. This work will be phased to maintain travel lanes, where possible. The first phase, May 12 - 30, will allow southbound traffic only and the second phase, May 30 - June 20, will allow northbound traffic only. This work is necessary to connect the various incoming and outgoing pipelines that converge at the pumpstation on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Crews are using a combination of boring (tunneling) and trenching in Greenfield Road and Val Vista Drive to install this large diameter waterline pipe. Business and resident access is being maintained, although it may not be the most direct route.

Work is taking place daytime hours, Monday through Saturday, with traffic control remaining in place 24/7 to protect the work zone (excluding major holidays). Thank you for your patience during this work.
