Design of the 10.5-mile Central Mesa Reuse Pipeline (CMRP) to deliver reclaimed water treated at the Northwest Water Reclamation Plant (NWWRP) to the Gila River Indian Community in exchange for Colorado River water supplies as part of an existing exchange agreement. This project will add essential infrastructure to help maximize Mesa’s diverse water portfolio.

Construction is entering the final phases for the Central Mesa Reuse Pipeline (CMRP). This 10.5-mile project will build essential infrastructure which will maximize an existing water exchange agreement with the Gila River Indian Community to bolster the City’s diverse water portfolio. Provided below is current construction information for the project, beginning at the south end of the project:

Greenfield Road, Holmes Avenue to Southern Avenue

  • Currently scheduled to begin March 2 for 2 - 3 weeks, crews will conduct final pavement restoration of the work area in the northbound curb lane of Greenfield Road, between Holmes and Southern avenues. Traffic will be shifted around the work area.
  • As work crosses side streets or driveways, there will be brief periods where access will be restricted, and crews will make every effort to restore access as quickly as possible.

Val Vista Drive, McKellips Road to Quenton Drive

  • Pipeline installation is complete and crews are working to conduct restoration.
  • Val Vista Drive traffic is currently shifted to the curb lanes between Kael Street and McDowell Road while crews work to grade the road in preparation for paving where the medians were removed. Paving is currently scheduled to begin Feb. 23 with stamped asphalt in the medians scheduled to be reinstalled beginning Feb. 26.
  • Scheduled to begin Feb. 23 for 3 - 4 weeks, crews will conduct landscape restoration along Val Vista Drive, from Kael Street to McDowell Road.
  • Scheduled to take place Feb. 25 - 27, crews will lower utilities such as manholes and valves, in the northbound lanes of Val Vista Drive from McKellips Road to Quenton Drive where pipeline installation recently took place.
  • Following this work, scheduled to take place March 2 - 6, crews will mill (remove) the top layer of asphalt and repave. Crews will then raise utilities to be flush with the new road surface and reapply striping. Traffic will be shifted away from the work area and left turns may be temporarily restricted as the work progresses.
  • Once restoration of the northbound lanes is complete, currently scheduled to begin in mid-March, crews will conduct similar work on the southbound lanes of Val Vista Drive, from Quenton Drive to McKellips Road where pipeline installation recently took place. Once again, traffic will be shifted away from the work area and left turns may be restricted temporarily as the work progresses.

Business and resident access is being maintained. Work is primarily taking place daytime hours, Monday through Saturday (excluding major holidays), with traffic control remaining in place 24/7 to protect the work zone. Thank you for your patience during this work.
