Preapproved Housing Design Plan Program

Per Arizona Revised Statute (A.R.S.) § 9-461.19, we have developed a preapproved housing design plan program.

Plan submissions are currently being accepted for the following classes:

  • Class 1 – Single-family homes that range in size from 800 to 2,000 square feet.
  • Class 2 – Two-family (duplex) homes, which must range in size from 400 to 1,000 square feet per unit.
  • Class 3 – Triplex homes, which must range in size from 400 to 1,000 square feet per unit.
  • Class 4 – Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) that must be 200, 600 or 1,000 square feet.

There are no fees for submitting Preapproved Housing Design Plans for review and approval. Standard construction permit fees will apply at the time of permit issuance.

Once plans are approved by the City of Mesa, preapproved housing design plans will be posted to this webpage along with contact information for the owner of the preapproved housing design plan.

Posting of the preapproved housing design plan or the owner's contact information does not constitute an endorsement by the City of Mesa.

The preapproved housing design plans may be used with permission from the plan owner. Any fees associated with the use of the plans are between the applicant and plan owner. The Preapproved Housing Design Plan Agreement(PDF, 227KB) must be completed by both parties and submitted to Permit Services to use a preapproved housing design plan.

Additional plans may be required, which include, but are not limited to plot plan, site plan, grading and drainage plan, off-site improvement plans, etc. Please discuss with Permit Services staff to ensure understanding of all development requirements prior to using a pre-approved housing design plan.
