Mesa Fire and Medical Department Internship Programs

Through a partnership with ASU, U of A, NAU, GCU, Rio Salado Community College, and the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, the department has two internship programs. 

Social Services Division

Make a meaningful impact as a Social Services Intern. Interns gain hands-on experience conducting in-home assessments, connecting residents with community resources, supporting case follow-ups, and collaborating with public safety and community partners.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work or College of Health Solutions internship course, possess a valid Class D driver's license, and successfully complete a background check. This two-semester internship is typically 240 hours per semester but may vary depending on school requirements and offers a stipend based on hours completed.

Office of Emergency Management

Prepare for a career in emergency management through this hands-on internship with Mesa. Interns support Emergency Management staff during training exercises, emergency response activities, and real-world activations while assisting with research, data analysis, report preparation, and administrative projects.

Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, Public Safety, Public Policy, or a related field and successfully complete a background check. This two-semester internship offers a stipend based on hours completed.
