Bicycle Safety classes are available all year long! Whether you’re new to biking or a pro and just want a refresher, we’ve got you covered. Most classes pop up at Mesa Public Library locations and spots can go fast, so be sure to register early through the library’s calendar.

What classes are available?

People Friendly Driver

Curious about how to safely share the road with people on bikes and on foot? This class is for you! We’ll dive into everyday traffic tips, your responsibilities behind the wheel, and how to avoid common crashes or conflicts with cyclists and pedestrians.

You’ll also learn why sharing the road is the safest, and kindest choice for everyone, plus how to navigate bike lanes, crosswalks, and other street designs that help all of us get around safely. Perfect for new drivers, seasoned pros, or anyone who wants to drive with confidence and care!

Recommended for ages 15+

Hot Weather & Night Riding

There are precautions you can take before you go for a ride in the heat. This class will teach some tips and tricks to avoid the discomfort and dangers that come with bicycling in hot weather conditions as well as guidance on how to avoid the heat by safely riding while the sun is down. All participants will leave the class with free safety gear! 

*Recommended for ages 12+

Smart Cycling for Older Adults

Whether you’re brand new to biking or just looking for a quick refresher, this class is perfect for you. We’ll share simple, practical tips to help older adults feel confident and safe while riding. From getting your bike ready to navigating the streets with ease, you’ll learn everything you need to start pedaling with peace of mind. Plus, everyone gets a FREE Bicycle Safety Kit that includes a helmet. Let’s get you rolling safely and confidently.

*Recommended for ages 50+

STEAM Classes

In this drop-in class, activities are designed to help you learn more about science, technology, engineering, art, mechanics, and SAFETY — the fun way! Each child will leave with items from class and free safety coloring book.

All Kids Bike

We are seeking Mesa Public Elementary Schools that are interested in piloting the All Kids Bike program. All Kids Bike is a national movement to place Kindergarten PE Learn-To-Ride Programs into public schools for free, using donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations. Selected schools will work with City of Mesa staff to secure funding for implementation of the 5-year program.

One local PE Specialist says of the program, "[All Kids Bike Program is] so valuable and so worthwhile. The kids love it and so do I!"

Bike Rodeo ToolKit

Are you eager to organize a bike or pedestrian rodeo in your community? The Bike Rodeo Toolkit is your ultimate guide. It contains step-by-step instructions to help you plan, organize, and execute a successful bike rodeo that engages and educates participants on essential cycling safety skills. The toolkit covers everything from station setups and volunteer coordination to promoting the event. With comprehensive how-to guides for each station and detailed checklists, you’ll have all the resources you need to make your bike rodeo a hit!
