Junior Lifeguarding

The Junior Lifeguard Program is a volunteer-based opportunity for teens ages 13–16 interested in gaining real-world experience in the lifeguarding field. Participants develop foundational skills in water safety, emergency response, teamwork, and professionalism while working alongside certified lifeguards. This program serves as a valuable pathway to future lifeguard employment.

Become a Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor

Step 1.Participant Requirements

Participants must be able to:

  • Swim 50 yards continuously
  • Tread water for 60 seconds
  • Surface dive and swim underwater for 10 yards
  • Complete a minimum of 30 volunteer hours during the summer season

Step 2.Scheduling

  • Junior lifeguards may assist with swim lessons, public swim, aquatic sport practices, and special events
  • Flexible, volunteer-based scheduling is available Monday–Saturday and is coordinated by the Junior Lifeguard Coach at each facility.
