Current Planning
Current Planning manages and evaluates development projects in accordance with existing land use policies, zoning ordinances, and regulations. This essential function involves the review, approval, and oversight of applications for new construction, redevelopment, subdivisions, and changes in land use.
Our focus is on promoting orderly growth while preserving the unique character of our community. We achieve this by ensuring that projects align with Mesa’s Zoning Code, design standards, environmental protections, and infrastructure capacities. Through careful assessment and collaboration, we aim to support sustainable development that enhances the quality of life for all Mesa residents.
Important Notice
We are implementing an update to the development review process by consolidating the existing Site Plan Review and Design Review applications into a single application called Development Plan Review.
This change will be implemented in DIMES, the online permitting portal, at 12:00 p.m. on April 9. The implementation is expected to take 4 hours. During this period, new Planning and Zoning (ZON) and Design Review Board (DRB) applications will not be accepted. Once the update is complete, the new Development Plan Review application will be available for submission through DIMES.
After implementation, applications submitted as combined requests for Planning review (e.g., projects that include Development Plan Review along with additional entitlements such as rezoning, plan amendments, or incentive permits) will have combined fees. This change does not apply to construction or building permit applications.
Please visit the Development Plan Review process page for additional information and application checklist.
