to 05:00 PM
Exhibit open January 23 through June 7
As Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum celebrates 250 years of American Craft this spring, the museum is honoring and uplifting the artistic contributions made by United States veterans. Featured in this exhibition are two local veteran artists, Jim Covarrubias and David Murrieta. A United States Army Veteran who served in Vietnam, Covarrubias has had a prolific career as an artist, writer, actor, director, and storyteller in the Valley. Murrieta, who considers Covarrubias a mentor and collaborator, served with the Marine Corps Reserves in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Murrieta has left an enduring mark through his murals across Arizona and as a teacher.
